About
My Adventure...
When I was 12 my parents hired a decorator who selected a white shag covered sofa and a sharp cornered Parsons tables for our family of 7. I expressed my deep displeasure. As anticipated, many bruises and stitches resulted from those corners, and the sofa was impossible to keep clean. I do credit him for creating my dreamy bedroom of a white/gold 4-poster bed, yellow & orange butterfly bedding and layered draperies. A budding interior designer was born!
Many years later I earned my B.S. in Interior Design from the University of Texas at Austin (“Hook ‘em Horns”), and fell in love with interior design, art history, architecture and a certain architecture student and now husband, David. Post graduation, I passed the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications examination and earned Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer designation. Favorite projects include: a popular author’s cabin in Jackson Hole, WY, a vacation home in the country of Panama, an accessible home for a family whose 18-year-old athlete son was instantly quadriplegic in a random shooting, and countless other residential and commercial interior design projects for clients who are like family to me. I practice in the Austin, San Antonio, central Texas Hill Country and anywhere via Zoom.
My two favorite consultants on projects are my sister, Karrie King of www.karriekingphotography.com and Boutique Gardenscapes, Certified Master Gardener and my cousin, Andrea Kalutkiewicz, NCIDQ, LEED AP, interior designer.
Giving back to others is important to me. To that end, I have served on multiple design association state and local boards, spoken at a national trade presentation, national webinar speaker, and neighborhood group events. I meet with legislators and testify at the capitol on interior design legislation, to protect younger and disadvantaged interior designers in Texas to keep them free to practice without unfair burdensome regulations.
My biggest “accomplishment” to date is the honor of being a mother and raising our amazing son, Simon who graduated from John Hopkins University with a chemical and bimolecular engineering degree and is thriving in New York City. When all is said and done, my faith and family are the foundations that have supported me through two painful bouts with cancer and other hardships. When not designing, you can find me enjoying a Bible study, cooking Mexican and Korean fare, scratch baking, watching a K-Drama, researching genealogy or history topics and of course, spending time with my huge family whom I adore.
