    BEFORE YOU CONTACT US

One of the most frequently asked questions of interior designers is, “how do you charge?” The quick answer is a that there are at least 5 different methods used by interior designers. For decades, interior designers simply purchased items wholesale and marked them up to compensate for their services. But the world and our profession has changed. Please read my blog post about fees then contact us.

The internet opened up tax free, direct purchasing to anyone. You now have more information and sources than you know what to do with. Unfortunately, HGTV inaccurately portrays designers and the design process. Remember – HGTV and other “Design” programs are just entertainment. Today, designers who have earned degrees, passed the stringent national qualifying exam, earn additional specialty certifications (like my CMKBD or Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer), attend trade shows like NKBA’s (National Kitchen & Bath Association) KBIS (Kitchen & Bath Industry Show, largest in North America), take dozens of CEUs (continuing education units) annually, learn complicated computer software programs, and carry expensive insurance, will typically charge either a Per Hour Fee or a Flat Fee for their time, talent, education, experience, expertise, and the overall value benefitting the client.

Our Flat Fee contracts start at $5,000. So, if you just need paint colors, staging, rearrangements, or simple on site consultation, we will probably not be the best fit for you. However, Kelley Barnett Interior Design, LLC may be able to refer you to other designers in the area.

    WHAT TO EXPECT

After in-depth conversations about your specific project and needs, we will formulate a defined “Scope of Work” on which to base the Flat Fee in the form of a Proposal and Retainer Invoice, which is paid to initiate design services. The Scope of Work is based on services which may include: site visits, comprehensive interior design, consultation, design conceptualization, design implementation, analysis of site/adjacencies/traffic patterns, ADA requirements, visits to local showrooms, CAD drawings, sketches, rendered perspectives, room finish schedule documentation, pre-selection of all interior finishes and furnishings, coordination with other professionals involved, placing orders for materials, receiving/inspecting/scheduling installation of materials, and more.

Additional services may include: upholstery, window coverings, bed coverings, artwork consultation, accessories, specialty and custom items, lighting, rugs, ceiling treatments, kitchen and bath design, antiques and more.
