One of the most frequently asked questions of designers is, “how do you charge?” For decades, interior designers purchased items wholesale and marked them up to compensate for their services. Things have changed.

The internet opened up tax free, direct purchasing to anyone. Unfortunately, HGTV inaccurately portrays designers and the design process. Remember – HGTV and other “Design” programs are just entertainment. Today, designers who have earned degrees and passed the national exam, typically charge Per Hour Fee Basis or a Flat Fee Basis for their time, talent, expertise, and the value benefitting the client.

Our Flat Fee contracts start at $5,000. So if you just need paint colors, staging, rearrangements, or very minor design needs, we will probably not be the best fit for you. However, Kelley Barnett Interior Design, LLC would be happy to refer you to other designers in the area.

Fees are based on services rendered which may include: site visits, interior design, consultation, design conceptualization, design implementation,detailed scope of work documents, traffic patterns, ADA requirements, visits to local showrooms, CAD or hand drawings, sketches, rendered perspectives, room finish schedule documentation, pre-selection of all interior finishes and furnishings, coordination with other professional involved, placing orders for materials, receiving/inspecting/scheduling installation of materials, and more.

Additional services may include: upholstery, window coverings, bed coverings, artwork consultation, accessories, specialty and custom items, lighting, rugs, ceiling treatments, kitchen and bath design, and antiques.
